Intel to open a microchip design laboratory in Barcelona

Technology company Intel will open a pioneering microchip design laboratory at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) facilities. The laboratory starts this year with 300 employees and plans to increase the team in the medium term.

The investment to launch the project will be 400 million euros, disbursed annually for 10 years. To launch the project, the US firm and government will contribute 20 million euros per year in equal parts over the next ten years. The microchips lab to be set up in Barcelona is one of Perte’s most important projects.

This new opening strengthens Intel’s commitment to the city of Barcelona.

Since 2011, Intel has been carrying out tests at the Barcelona facilities with the aim of testing and scaling its technology in the world of supercomputing.

Over the years, the US group has been renewing agreements with the center, strengthening a relationship that has now borne fruit in a top-level chip design center.
