60% of funding to Barcelona’s startup ecosystem comes from international funds

Barcelona’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is experiencing more growth and interest from international investors than ever before. 

 

60% of the capital resources for Barcelona seed companies founded in 2021, come from international funds. This is a noteworthy fact because the funds no longer come exclusively from investors linked to the project or the closest environment of its entrepreneurs, but rather corresponds to international funds. 

 

The attractiveness of Barcelona-based startups ranks the city to the seventh position in the Top 20 European cities for capital invested in technology companies, according to State of European Tech 21 by Atomico.  

 

The study shows that Barcelona technology hub has raised a total investment of $1.5 B in 2021 and it ranks ahead of other influential European cities such as Dublin, Madrid, Vienna, Copenhague, Helsinki, Tallin, Oslo or Milan.
