Swiss gaming company FunPlus announces new video game studio in Barcelona

Barcelona is a hotbed for international video game and is moving forward to become the next European hub of technology and gaming. The Mediterranean city continues to attract the world’s largest video game companies thanks to its winning combination of talent and quality of life.

Swiss video game company FunPlus, one of the largest independent mobile game companies in the world, strengthens its commitment to Barcelona. The company has announced the opening of a new studio in the Catalan capital and plans to hire 120 employees, as part of its expansion plans. These are qualified professional profiles who will work as video game developers, designers, programmers and artists.

This expansion project will make the Barcelona FunPlus studio the company’s only one in Europe focused on creating and publishing casual video games for mobile devices.

The Barcelona studio «plays a very strategic role, given that we are currently one of the leaders in strategy games and now we also want to become a benchmark for the casual genre for mobile games, with an attractive offer for almost any user in the world», explained Felipe Mata, vice-president of product at the multinational.

A gaming company committed to the city

FunPlus landed in Barcelona in 2019 with only four employees and has gradually increased its team in recent years to 30. From their facilities, the company had centralized its editorial management, specializing in marketing and creative services.
