New international investments
Global mobile gaming leader Scopely has opened its largest international hub in Barcelona, now employing over 700 people. The move builds on its 2021 acquisition of local studio Digital Legends, with teams behind Stumble Guys and Scrabble now based in the city.
Chery, China’s leading automotive manufacturer, will open a 2,000 m² R&D centre in Barcelona later this year. The facility will focus on adapting vehicles for the European market and follows Chery’s 2024 manufacturing partnership with EV Motors at the D-Hub.
Grifols, the Barcelona-based healthcare company, will invest €160 million in a new plasma fractionation plant in the metropolitan area, creating over 400 jobs. The site will double Grifols’s European capacity and become part of a major biotech hub.
German environmental services firm PreZero has invested over €42 million to launch Spain’s largest Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) plant and Barcelona’s first urban biomethane facility in the Zona Franca. Together, the projects will create more than 85 qualified jobs.
German multinational Lang Laser has inaugurated its first factory outside Germany in Barcelona, investing €2 million in laser machinery for the packaging sector. The new plant will generate around 30 jobs by 2027 and aims to double the group’s global production.
