Nearly 75% of these companies are concentrated in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, highlighting the region’s role as a focal point for innovation.
Earth observation leads the sector, representing nearly 40% of companies, with key players such as Airbus GeoTech, Aistech Space, Satellogic, Open Cosmos and isardSAT transforming satellite data into actionable insights. In connectivity, Sateliot is developing a 5G-enabled low Earth orbit satellite constellation, while in propulsion, Pangea Propulsion is advancing next-generation rocket engines and building a testing facility at Lleida–Alguaire Airport — a site evolving into a dedicated space hub.
Strategic public support and global positioning
This growth has been actively supported by public investment and long-term strategy. Since the launch of the NewSpace Strategy in 2020, Catalonia has deployed nanosatellites such as Enxaneta, Menut and Minairó, strengthened incubation programmes through the ESA Business Incubation Centre, and introduced the Catalonia Space Strategy 2030, backed by a €40 million investment fund.
As a result, Barcelona now ranks fourth among EU cities for venture capital raised in space technologies between 2021 and 2025, positioning itself alongside leading hubs such as Toulouse, Berlin and Munich.

Barcelona’s momentum aligns with a broader global expansion of the space economy. The sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of 7.9% through 2030, reaching nearly $747 billion.
