The agri-food industry is one of the major sectors of Catalonia’s economy and one of the most dynamic export sectors. It generates a turnover of €27,940M and employs more than 88,000 people.

Most leading food companies in the world, such as Nestlé, Danone, Unilever, Kellogg’s, Coca-Cola, Agrolimen, Panrico, Bimbo, Damm, Adam Foods, Freixenet, among others, have set up productive centres, R&D departments and laboratories, and logistics activities in the Barcelona Region.

Ever since the industrial revolution, the Barcelona region has always had an important textile and fashion sector. Its geostrategic location enables efficient intercontinental connections to Asia and the Americas and easy, fast distribution to Southern Europe and North Africa.

Barcelona hosts international fashion brands such as Mango, Grupo Inditex, Pronovias, Rosa Clará, Desigual, among others.

Furthermore, major fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci or Prada manufacture part of their bags and other accessories in the Barcelona region.

The project created by the Consortium of the Free Trade Zone and Leitat has 100,000 m2, an estimated total investment of 100 million euros and will bring together the companies and technologies of Industry 4.0.

SEAT (Volkswagen Group) is the first industrial manufacturer in Europe to have more than 200 AGVs (Automated guided vehicles) with SLAM navigation (simultaneous localization and mapping) for the supply of spare parts at the Martorell factory (Barcelona).

HP with the Digital Manufacturing Center of Excellence brings together hundreds of the world’s leading additive manufacturing experts in more than 150,000 square feet of cutting-edge innovation space to transform the way the world designs and manufactures. Leaders such as BASF, GKN Metallurgy, Siemens, Volkswagen and others across the automotive, industrial, healthcare, and consumer goods sectors collaborates with HP on new 3D printing and digital manufacturing innovations at the centre.

Digital Innovation Hub for Catalonia (DIH4CAT)
The Digital Innovation Hub for Catalonia is a network of Digital Innovation Hubs established by the European Commission.
DIH4CAT is configured as a networked service community, through which industry and public administrations can access a set of services, infrastructures, capacities and technological and non-technological solutions to boost their digital and technological transformation, acting, in turn, as an advanced connector between supply and demand in Catalonia as a whole.
