Volkswagen Group will produce compact electric vehicles in Barcelona
The factory based in Barcelona, by 2025, will start producing more than 500,000 vehicles a year for various VW Group brands, thus establishing itself as a European electric vehicle hub.

Barcelona is home to D-Hub, a a business consortium grouping more than 30 companies led by QEV Technologies and B-Tech, with major challenges to boost electric mobility and set strategies for decarbonization
D-Hub, led by QEV TECHNOLOGIES and BTech Group, plans to manufacture 100% electric last-mile vehicles under the ZEROID brand and electric pickups based on patents from previous Nissan models, to be marketed under the Ebro brand. Alongside them, a dozen sector companies with complementary projects will participate in the hub.

Barcelona coordinates the EIT Urban Mobility KIC (Knowledge Innovation Centre)

EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Since January 2019,it has been working to encourage positive changes in the way people move around cities in order to make them more livable. EIT Urban Mobility aims to become the largest European initiative transforming urban mobility. Co-funding of up to € 400 million (2020-2026) from the EIT, a body of the European Union, will help make this happen.

 

The objective is to finance projects that contribute to mobility solutions to accelerate the transition towards more liveable urban spaces. This programme aims to achieve the following milestones by 2026:

 

  • Create 180 start-ups
  • Free up road space in 90% of its partner cities
  • Launch 125 new products
  • Increase shared mobility in all partner cities
  • Attract investment

Out of the Next Generation EU funds, the Recovery and Resilience funds assigned to the European Green Deal are 249 Bn€.
